Using a Telstra Smart Modem with your Belong service.
You can find basic modem set-up instructions in our BYO modem set-up guide. But if you’re looking for some more advanced set-up options, you’ll find them here.
Access modem settings
To change your modem’s settings, you’ll need to log in first. Here’s how:
Make sure the green light on your modem is on
Connect to your modem on a computer or tablet
Open an internet browser and enter http://192.168.0.1 or http://mygateway/ into the URL bar
Use the boxes in the top right to log in with the username is admin. Your password depends on your modem type:
Telstra Smart Modem 1.1 or Gen 2: password is Telstra.
Telstra Gen 3 modem: password is the same as your modem’s default password (you can find this on the bottom of the modem)
Reboot your modem
To physically turn your modem off and on again:
Unplug the power cable
Wait 10 seconds and plug it back in
Give it 2-3 minutes to come back online, then try connecting one of your devices
To reset your modem using a web browser:
Log in to your modem settings using the instructions above
Choose Go to advanced
Choose Management
Choose System Reset
Choose Restart and wait 2-3 minutes for your modem to come back online
Reset to factory settings
You can wipe the data from your modem and restore the default password either physically or via web browser. To do it physically:
Get a pin or paperclip and look for the hole at the back of your modem that says ‘Reset’
Insert the pin and hold it for about 10 seconds – the lights should start to flash
Give it about 5 minutes to finish resetting
Once the lights are green, use the default password on the bottom of your modem to connect
To reset factory settings via browser:
Log in to your modem settings using the instructions above
Choose Go to advanced
Choose Management
Choose System Reset
Choose Reset and wait 5 minutes for your modem to reset – it’s ready when the lights are green
See connected devices
To see which devices are connected to your modem, log into your modem’s settings using the instructions at the top of this page. A full list of devices (including those connected in the past) will be on the first screen after you log in.
Change wi-fi password
To change your wi-fi password to something more memorable:
Log into your modem’s settings using the instructions at the top of this page
Choose Wi-fi
Scroll down to Wi-Fi Network and check the box next to ‘Enabled’
Next to Network Name, enter what you’d like to call your network (no judgement from us for choosing pretty fly for a wi-fi)
Next to Network Key, enter the password you’d like to use
Click/tap ‘Start’
A note about SIM backup mode
If you were using a backup SIM with your Telstra internet service, this won’t work after you move your service to Belong.
