What's the Integrated Public Number Database?

The Integrated Public Number Database (IPND) is a government-run collection of customer info provided by telcos. It covers customer details (including the names, addresses and phone numbers), the type of service they have and if the service is listed or unlisted.

The IPND is managed by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA). All telecommunications companies are legally required to provide their customer info to the database.

Belong's obligations

All Australian carriage service providers – including Belong – are legally obliged to submit details to the IPND for each phone number they provide a customer. They also have to share any updates (for example, a customer changes their address).

What is the IPND used for?

The service information in the IPND can be used by critical services like Emergency Call Services, Triple Zero, the Emergency Alert System and emergency service organisations (police, fire brigade and ambulance).

For example, if someone calls Triple Zero for help but can’t share their address, the operator can look up the caller’s phone number in the IPND and get their details.

What customer details are in the database?

Here are the details we provide to the IPND to store:

  • your mobile phone number

  • your name

  • your home address

  • whether or not the phone number is publicly listed in directories (Belong won’t list your number unless you ask us to).

Protecting your privacy

Access to the IPND is managed and regulated to protect the privacy and confidentiality of the information it holds. You can access (and correct) the information the IPND holds on you by calling us on .

Can you opt out of the database?

You can’t opt out of the IPND. Being listed in the database is essentially part of the agreement you make by taking out a phone number.

You can, however, choose to have a listed or an unlisted phone number.

Listed numbers can be shown in phone number directories and other related services. Unlisted numbers won’t be.

You can manage this setting via My services and read more about listed and unlisted numbers by browsing to our What’s the difference between listed and unlisted phone numbers? support article.

How does Belong manage your personal information?

We manage your personal information in accordance with our Privacy Statement.
